Area Information:
Mission Valley is a wide valley trending east-west in San Diego, through which the San Diego River flows to the Pacific Ocean. Due to its massive size, it is divided into two neighborhoods: Mission Valley East and Mission Valley West. Mission Valley serves as an important shopping and entertainment center for San Diego. Also, there has been a large amount of newly-built condominiums and apartments that have been recently built in this area.
Located at the geographic center of San Diego, Mission Valley offers an abundance of both daytime and nighttime activities. With access to five major freeways including County-Interstates 5, 8, 15, and 805, and State Highway 163, Mission Valley's central location opens up a host of possible day and nighttime activities!
For example, take a short drive west and you will find yourself amidst San Diego's world-class beaches and right next to Sea World; a drive north takes you to La Jolla, Quail Botanical Gardens, and the Wild Animal Park; drive south and discover Balboa Park, the world-famous San Diego Zoo, downtown San Diego and Petco Park (home of the Padres), San Diego Bay, the airport (Lindbergh Field), Old Town, Coronado Island, and Mexico; and a drive east takes you to the scenic countryside of Alpine, Julian, and, occasionally during the winter, snow in the mountains.

If you do want to spend your days in Mission Valley, though, there is plenty to do: sports and other unique events at Qualcomm Stadium (home of the San Diego Chargers and the host for two major college bowl games) and major shopping and dining at Fashion Valley, Mission Valley, Hazard Center, Rio Vista, and Fenton Marketplace. With an abundance of free parking and several San Diego Trolley stations, events throughout Mission Valley are diverse and convenient.
