As a part of the City of San Diego, La Jolla is not its own city but certainly has the reputation of one, playing host to a large art community and many retired Hollywood stars & Nobel winners. One of La Jolla’s best attractions is the village guided by Prospect Street and Girard, which hosts many shops, boutiques, galleries, and a multitude of four-star restaurants, many overlooking the Pacific. The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club is known the world over, it's unusual in that it owns the beach up the the high tide mark. Just east of Interstate 5 is La Jolla’s business center with high rise offices, hotels, apartment complexes, and a large Westfield shopping center.
An abundance of private education is available as well as many public schools with extraordinarily high national and state test scores and rankings. Because of the university’s facilities and the many educated residents who are privy to world affairs and intellectualism, the arts community thrives and clubs meet regularly. Facilities and events include a sports complex / concert hall at UCSD, Concerts in the park, the La Jolla Festival of Arts, two golf courses, about 10 parks, a library, one of the countries only computer labs, and the La Jolla Playhouse, founded with the help of the late Gregory Peck. This town boasts a sense of society, with class and money to boot.
